Focus: PaaS and the next generation of cloud software
By: TechTarget ComputerWeekly.com
Type: eGuide
While enterprises have been quick to adopt Software- and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) technologies, it is fair to say the use of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) has lagged behind somewhat.
The reasons for that are not difficult to fathom, given that SaaS and IaaS offerings have both played important roles in allowing enterprises to crack on with tackling some of the easier parts of their cloud migration strategies.
With these “easy wins” achieved, enterprises are now turning their attention to tackling the more complex aspects of moving to the cloud, which may involve retooling of their existing applications or prompt them to start writing their own cloud-native apps using PaaS.
In this e-guide, we take a closer look at some of the latest trends and thinking in cloud application development, and how organisations are using PaaS to help accelerate their move off-premise.

Network and security designs considerations for PaaS db such as RDS and SQL
By:
Type: Replay
CSPs provide a number of PaaS services across different applications and databases. Although PaaS services take care of the application platform management, at the end of the day, these cloud provider services have a network interface to the Virtual Network (VPC, VNet, VCN etc.) that customers must manage. All the network connectivity and security then becomes the customer’s responsibility. In this tech talk, Aviatrix Solutions Architects will focus on PaaS Database services, using Amazon RDS and Azure SQL as examples.

The Growth of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
By:
Type: Talk
According to Flexera’s 2024 State of the Cloud Report, Platform-as-a-Service took off in 2024 and we’re not seeing any slowing down of this trend in 2025. If you’re not already exploring the value of Platform-as-a-Service (Paas) for your business, this could be the time to change that. But where to begin? PaaS isn’t simply a “one size fits all” and it can be implemented in a range of different ways, as the data shows. While a variety of PaaS offerings saw a gain in usage, the most prominent numbers are in the data warehouse sector: up to 65% from 56% year over year. Container-as-a-service and serverless support are also both up by nine percentage points this year. Although it is a newer technology, it will not surprise anyone to learn that ML/AI is the PaaS offering getting the most attention from companies experimenting (32%) or planning to use it (17%). With so many possible avenues for adoption, how can companies decide if PaaS is right for them? And is this growth trend set to continue? In this episode of Cloud Cover, Jo Peterson and her expert panel will look at these questions – and several more – as they deep dive on the growth of Platform-as-a-Service.

Unlocking the Power of Open-Source: A Private Cloud Alternative to Public Cloud
By:
Type: Talk
OpenStack is the premier open-source private cloud framework, boasting over a decade of proven benefits. Numerous organizations worldwide have successfully leveraged OpenStack at scale, often with a tailored economic model. However, it's important to recognize that while OpenStack excels in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), its core functionalities revolve around flexible and open Compute, Network, and Storage orchestration. This leaves a gap for organizations seeking Platform as a Service (PaaS) layers, a void typically filled by public cloud implementations offering bundled services like Database as a Service (DBaaS) and Message Queue as a Service (MQaaS). At Mirantis, we help customers address this gap with comprehensive open-source solutions, providing organizations with a genuine alternative to closed-source offerings. Daniel Virassamy will explain how PaaS functionality is supported on OpenStack, providing a complete platform for accelerated software development and production hosting. He’ll provide and describe: - A comprehensive overview of the architecture, spanning both IaaS and PaaS layers. - A detailed Software Bill of Material (SBOM) and Bill of Material (BOM) for a complete open-source-based solution, ensuring transparency and accountability. - Core services delivered by the IaaS layer, facilitating seamless infrastructure management. - Deep integration of PaaS with IaaS, ensuring smooth interoperability and enhanced functionality. - Various application delivery models for DBaaS, MQaaS, and other essential tools and runtimes. - The value for the organizations and how their developers can benefit from those services. Through these initiatives, we empower organizations to embrace open-source solutions fully, enabling agility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness in their cloud deployments.

SaaS Application Security | The Missing Component of Cyber Risk in the Cloud
By:
Type: Replay
The composition of cloud services includes, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. Recent market adoption of cloud security measures has been focused on the large-scale IaaS and PaaS vendors. Meanwhile, with the explosion of business-critical SaaS applications, we find massive amounts of data including client and sensitive data reside in these SaaS systems. The security teams remain unaware of the cyber risks that insecure SaaS and associated data represents. This risk blindness is largely due to the lack of cyber risk observability into critical SaaS apps. Many security risks in SaaS applications are not all that different than IaaS and PaaS services and center on misconfiguration, yet implementing security solutions to address them can require specific consideration based on the heterogeneity of SaaS apps. Come hear from industry experts from KPMG Canada and AppOmni to understand the commonalities of SaaS cybersecurity with other key cloud security use cases. Also learn best practice on how to mitigate the leading cyber threats facing SaaS, including end-user misconfiguration risk and the risk of an over-privileged data compromise.

DSPM in Hybrid Cloud Environments
By:
Type: Talk
Driven by the expansion of cloud adoption, enterprise data is now housed across multiple public clouds, PaaS and SaaS. However, a significant portion remains on premises. As a result, security teams struggle to get holistic visibility into where their data resides, whether it is at risk or compliant, and how much it would cost the company to lose it. DSPM (Data Security Posture Management) addresses this challenge for ‘data everywhere’ and provides unprecedented visibility into data stores and attack paths across IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and on-prem environments. Join Normalyze Head of Product Gautam Kanaparthi as he demonstrates how DSPM gives enterprises a complete view of their data: - What type of sensitive data exists and where - Which data stores contain the most critical information - Who can access it - What potential attack paths can lead to a breach Gautam will demonstrate how Normalyze prioritizes these risks according to the monetary impact on the business.

Microservice, Container, Kubernetes & The Future of PaaS
By:
Type: Talk
Living in a digital world means information is always at your fingertips, residing in the applications on your phones, laptops and servers. As speed and availability of information access requirements get higher and more complex, applications must evolve to stay current. Rapid changes in application architecture have seen applications morph from more traditional, monolithic applications with functional modules built into a single installation, to modern microsevice-based applications, that break into multiple installations, that more easily serve a wider user base. The future surely belongs to microservice-based applications, as unlike monolithic applications that are designed to run on physical servers or VMs, micro-service applications can be run on containers, and are managed by Kubernetes (K8s in short). To build, run and manage container-based microservices, you will certainly deal with K8s. As the first graduated open-source project from CNCF, K8s are the core of the platform-as-a-service that provides automation and orchestration for micro-service applications. Many tools like Jenkins and Istio are built around K8s, to facilitate simple and faster modern application development and management. As a long-time IaaS (HCI & SCP) player in the market, Sangfor dedicated an increasing amount of resources to PaaS development several years ago. Why are K8s so popular? And what is Sangfor’s role in the PaaS world? Join our Sangfor expert-led webinar to learn more!

Libérer la puissance de l'open source : le cloud privé en tant qu’alternative au cloud public
By:
Type: Talk

How did we get here? Platforms and the developer experience gap
By:
Type: Talk
Since its publication, Stephen O’Grady’s blog post describing the developer experience gap has become a guide, informing strategies for application development products, tools, and programs, by end-users and vendors alike. In the now iconic post O’Grady points out that while developers today have a “robust” range of tools for testing, building, integrating and deploying their code to production, they are also being asked to build and maintain them. In our attempts to reduce points of friction in the development process, we’ve neglected the overall experience. We’ve not really created an experience where all these tools work in concert. To be sure, the combined evolution of containers, cloud computing and PaaS has facilitated this experience gap. By the same token, platforms have a role in fixing it. In this webinar we will join Valentina Alaria, Director of Product at VMware Tanzu, and Stephen O’Grady Principal Analyst & Co-founder of RedMonk as they discuss the application platform landscape, the points of friction inherent within the app dev process, and how platforms can help address the developer experience gap that’s plaguing application development teams!

How Cloud Security Defense Secures Your Cloud Infrastructure?
By:
Type: Talk
In a traditional data centre, you create one perimeter, secure it by installing firewall, WAF, SIEMS etc. and you should have confidence level to ensure your data centre is secure. However, when you migrate to cloud (whether it is SaaS, PaaS or IaaS), you may not know how to secure it. Whether to consider its native security or out-of-the box cloud security solutions. Since it is a public cloud you have to be more cautious no matter how secure your crown jewel or meet regulatory compliance. Unwrapping Multi-Cluster Security: One Layer At A Time
By:
Type: Replay
Just like a well-constructed burger requires carefully layering the right ingredients, securing multi-cluster deployments demands a thoughtful, layered approach. In this webinar, we'll deconstruct the multi-cluster burger, peeling back each layer to reveal security strategies for the infrastructure, applications, data, networking, observability, and overall security of components. Key Takeaways - Clarity on the different components or "layers" that make up a typical multi-cluster architecture. - Insights into adopting a layered approach to security in multi-cluster and hybrid environments. They'll learn the importance of implementing security controls and best practices at each layer. - Strategies for enforcing consistent security policies, access controls, and governance across all clusters and components in a multi-cluster setup. - Need for centralized monitoring, logging, and observability tools to gain end-to-end visibility into the security posture and health of the entire stack.
