Accelerating Sustainability Through Integrated Data Center Management
By:
Type: Replay
In recent years, the demand for data centers has skyrocketed as more and more businesses and individuals rely on digital technologies to store, process, and access data. However, the energy consumption of data centers has also increased, making them a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Many data center operators are turning to innovative technologies and practices to improve energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint to address this. One such approach is integrating a Building Automation System (BAS) with a Data Center Infrastructure Management System (DCIM). A BAS is a centralized control system that manages and controls a building's environmental conditions, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, and security. By monitoring and adjusting the building's systems in real-time, the BAS can improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, and improve occupant comfort and safety. Conversely, a DCIM provides centralized management and monitoring of a data center's IT and physical infrastructure, including power and cooling systems, server utilization, capacity planning, and environmental conditions. By integrating a BAS with a DCIM, data center operators can monitor and control the energy usage of the IT equipment and the building infrastructure. This allows for more efficient resource use, reduced energy waste, and lower operating costs.

Why SAS is a Gold Mine for Crypto
By:
Type: Talk
Just as with mining in the real world, the people who mine cryptocurrency use powerful equipment to increase their chance of finding valuable resources. But all that power comes at a cost: namely, massive energy consumption. However, next generation blockchains such as the Chia Network could change all that. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, you don't mine Chia with a processor, graphics card, or an ASIC miner. Instead, you farm Chia with storage space, which is where hard drives and solid-state drives come in, using the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) infrastructure to connect them. In this webinar, Jonmichael Hands, vice president, Storage Business Development, Chia Network, will explain the “proof of space and time” (storage capacity) concept that is the foundation of the Chia network, and why SAS is a great technology for farming Chia. He will also discuss the difference between Chia plotting and farming and how they are carried out with the use of storage devices. The webinar will be moderated by Cameron Brett, president of the SCSI Trade Association (STA) and director of Enterprise and Cloud Storage Marketing at KIOXIA America. SAS is the leading storage interface used in enterprise servers and storage deployments in data centers. Can the Chia Network turn storage into gold for a digital world? Which great SAS products can help you farm for Chia? Reserve your spot today and tune in to find out!

Powering a more sustainable grid with innovative substation modernization tech
By:
Type: Video
Dell Technologies and Intel Corporation are committed to accelerating the energy transition and advancing decarbonization of the electric utilities. We are partnering on strategic initiatives to assist in the modernization of the electric grid including the distribution substation. Increased electrification and growth in distributed energy resources (DER), necessitate a more secure, digital, and interoperable grid. This jointly developed substation architecture will improve safety and reliability, be easier to manage and operate more sustainably. This webinar will highlight the solutions that Dell Technologies and ABB are developing together to support utilities launching substation modernization initiatives. The Intel powered, Dell PowerEdge XR12 server is part of the growing Dell server portfolio designed to operate in extreme and rugged environments at the Edge. This server configuration has been tested and validated to be fully compliant with the global power industry IEC 61850-3 substation operating standard. ABB’s SSC600 virtualized protection and control software enables the centralization of multiple substation workloads and functions onto a single virtualized substation platform. This software defined platform will provide more functionality by facilitating faster application changes. This improvement in responsiveness and functionality will accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources and strengthen the substation cyber security profile. The webinar will also feature the project lead form UK Power Networks, a large Great Britain based distribution network operator (DNO). This part of the session will be focused on how UK Power Networks are moving forward in the validation and deployment of these new technologies into their distribution network and their multiyear vision for their substation of the future.
