This document provides sizing information for running Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007 mailbox servers on HP ProLiant servers with large mailbox storage constraints. Since Exchange 2007 is a 64-bit application, this substantially changes the server configuration options, allowing much more memory than the 4GB boundary of the previous 32-bit Exchange 2003 environment. The sizing tables and charts presented here show the relationship of guidelines and constraints that have an impact on the choice of ProLiant servers for Exchange deployments.
The key lesson of this document is how Exchange 2007 design and deployment will be different due to the change to 64-bit. This document also includes the results of comparison testing performed by HP on Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 using both Microsoft Exchange Server Load Simulator (LoadSim) and Exchange Load Generator (LoadGen).
