Is the Netherlands keeping up with modern pace of digital change?

Despite the recent EIS 2016 report identifying the Netherlands as one the fastest-growing innovators, the country’s digital competitiveness has been questioned by a report from the World Economic Forum (WEF). In its Global Information Technology Report 2016, the WEF drops the Netherlands to sixth place in its ranking of digital economies after showing it in third place for the past three years. This drop in ranking could be a wake-up call to government and businesses and a warning that standing still is not good enough.

Also in this quarter’s CW Benelux, we reveal less confidence that budgets will increase this year among IT leaders in the Benelux region. According to Computer Weekly/TechTarget research, only 28% of them expect IT budgets to be higher this year, compared with 43% in the Nordic region, 34% in German-speaking countries, 39% in the UK, 35% in France and 36% in Eastern Europe. The same research sheds some light on how IT leaders might free up budget, with cloud computing investments a top priority.
