Mobile employees connect to work anywhere and at anytime, blurring distinctions between personal and professional life. Talent acquisition, especially for top positions, is no longer limited by geography. A hyper-competitive job market shifts the power from employers to candidates.

SilkRoad conducted a series of six surveys to determine HR’s progress, plans for the future and readiness to tackle the novel changes ahead in the new world of work. This report provides an in-depth analysis of those surveys and the issues that matter most to HR professionals. We forecast 10 major trends for the coming year, which reflect five themes that emerged from our research: engagement and retention, recruitment, leadership development, HR technology, and performance management.

Key findings:

  • Only 14% of respondents have an integrated workforce planning/management system.
  • Nearly half were unconcerned that their recruitment system wasn’t mobile-friendly.
  • Only one-third of HR professionals say the actual work they do reflects the brand, even with evidence that 43% of employers with a formal branding program find it easier to improve employee engagement.
  • 51% of US workers were “not engaged” in 2014, and nearly 18% were “actively disengaged”.
