Spotting a spear phishing attack can be tricky – when it doubt, err on the side of caution and forward it to your MSP or IT admin for further investigation.
However, most spear phishing email typically follow a similar pattern and layout. The following resource provides 5 areas to look at to determine if an email is a spear phishing attempt or not – these areas include:
- A spoofed sender address
- Pretexting with personal information and/or ‘small talk’
- Signature – usually stating that the email was composed on a phone or tablet
