Storage is enjoying an aftershock of the flash revolution, with the development of NVMe and its networked variant NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) used to maximize flash and SSD performance.
However, there is a major challenge in translating the doubled performance of NVMe flash drives into a doubling of overall storage system performance; and modifying legacy systems to use NVMe drives creates bottlenecks elsewhere in those systems, heavily limiting the theoretical performance gain.
451 Research confronts these issues in the following report. Read on to learn how to maximize storage performance using NVMe and NVMe-oF, and how disaggregation can help.
