The recent evolution of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) market has been dominated by two main trends:
The first trend is that of traditional vendors re-designing products in order to make them more user-friendly and easier to maintain.
The second trend is the emergence of a segment of new vendors and solutions employing the latest technologies to challenge traditional ERP and sometimes even trying to re-invent it (more or less successfully).
Both trends have led to a certain degree of consumerisation of ERP, making it more accessible but bringing with it new challenges such as the integration between ERP and other software solutions.
Depending on their go-to-market strategy and their R&D budget, vendors use a myriad of different approaches to adapt to the changing need of their customers and the advent of new technologies.
