There are many drivers behind the Western European data centre market. Many of these are global, for example the Cisco forecast that Global IP traffic will quadruple from 2009 to 2014.
The growth of ‘Big Data’ and cloud computing, as well as e-commerce and social networking, are all clearly important.
This analysis by BroadGroup suggests that two of the biggest drivers will be mobile data traffic and video usage. Within specific vertical markets, increased regulation and data storage laws will also drive growth.
The growth in telecoms traffic has been an ongoing and increasing trend, as shown below, with annual growth around 45%.
