Ultrabooks are a new generation of notebook PCs, borrowing features from tablet PCs. The name Ultrabook is a trademark of Intel, and this allows the company to control which devices carry its brand, thereby ensuring a standard of technical specifications sufficient to stand out as a superior product.

The specifications that Intel have set out clearly differentiate Ultrabooks from their notebook progenitors, but borrow a number of features from their tablet cousins, including a thin and light design, instant-on and extended battery life.

Intel’s new Ultrabook category is set to reposition and re-energise the notebook market more firmly within the mobile computing space.
