Microsoft SharePoint is the platform of choice for organizations to store enterprise-wide content. New features in SharePoint Server 2010 take the platform to the next level by improving the platform’s scalability and usability to further enhance collaboration among knowledge workers.

While there are many methods to encourage extensive collaboration – training on when to use SharePoint versus email or shared drives, incorporating feedback, providing incentives – users must be confident that SharePoint can deliver a quick, reliable experience. In order to provide all global users with fast access times to SharePoint content, decreased SharePoint response times, and business continuity, organizations must architect for scalability from the start. Consolidating existing disparate content into SharePoint from file shares or other legacy systems – and encouraging the use of SharePoint's collaboration features like Calendars, Task lists, Announcements, and Discussions – will facilitate the transition from an ego-centric approach of working to a more team-centric one. Users must have appropriate access rights to content necessary for daily production, yet still ensure the organization is fully compliant with regulatory obligations. Monitoring SharePoint's activity is key to tracking the success of SharePoint deployments, which can lead to better decision making and more proactive identification of risks. Growth management and expiration of stale contents keep SharePoint performance optimized so users keep returning to access the latest relevant information, while planning with compliance regulations and robust data protection in mind will keep SharePoint environments secure.
