Case Study - Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute support data intensive research applications with Riverbed
sponsored by Riverbed Stingray
ABSTRACT:
The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute publishes it genomic research to a network of 320 websites that typically receives about 80 million hits per month— and that excludes any traffic spikes.
Using an open-source load balancer to manage all of this traffic wasn't working; configuration changes required excessive downtime, a limited number of possible processing requests often caused problems with the back-end-applications, and the fear of crashing the entire network was always imminent.
Read this case study to learn how a smooth, efficient migration to a traffic management system with better flexibility, scalability and control allowed the Institute to:
- Minimize data center costs by replacing two network switches and six physical servers
- Reduce latency to enable constant availability of all its sites
- Quickly and easily scale websites up and down to cope with highly dynamic traffic demands
- And more!
